Selena Gomez Reveals What Work She’s Had Done on Her Face as She Claps Back at Speculation

Selena Gomez has spoken out to clarify the truth about the cosmetic procedures she’s had. The Emmy-nominated actress recently addressed a now-deleted 2023 TikTok video featuring Marissa Barrionuevo, a physician assistant at a plastic surgery clinic.

In the video, Barrionuevo explained that she would not speculate on Selena’s possible cosmetic work because the singer has lupus — a condition that can significantly impact a person’s appearance.

Despite the respectful approach, the ongoing discussions around her looks took a toll on Selena, now 32.

Honestly I hate this,” she commented. “I was on stripes because of flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Marissa later posted an apology video, assuring Selena that she didn’t owe anyone an explanation. In response, the Only Murders in the Building star replied in the comments, “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes.”

Selena was diagnosed with lupus in 2014 and underwent chemotherapy as part of her treatment. In 2017, she received a kidney transplant and has since been candid about her health journey.

During a TikTok livestream in February 2023, she discussed the physical changes she’s experienced as a result of her medications.

I tend to hold a lot of water weight,” she said. “And that happens very normally. When I’m off of it, I tend to lose weight. I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels some sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through, and no one knows the real story. I just want people to know that you’re beautiful and you’re wonderful.”

Beyond the physical effects, lupus has also impacted her mental health. In 2016, Selena revealed, “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which present their own challenges.”

She went on to say, “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support.
