Benny Blanco has babies on his mind.
The music producer recently opened up about his desire to become a father in an interview with InStyle, revealing that he and his fiancée, Selena Gomez, have already begun thinking about starting a family.
“I love kids; I love being an uncle. I want to be a dad, though, God willing,” Blanco shared. He added that he’s “just dreaming and praying every day” when it comes to the idea of having children.
The couple, who have taken major steps in their relationship, purchased a $35 million Spanish-style home in Beverly Hills back in February.
Speaking about their new place, Blanco said, “I love making a house my own,” and while he’s not handling the heavy lifting himself, he puts in the effort to bring warmth and personality to their home.
“I’m not in there with the staple gun, but I’m in there with tchotchkes and a lot of creativity and heart,” he explained. “I hate it when you go into a person’s house and you’re like, ‘Ooh, it feels like nobody lives here!’ I don’t want to be scared to sit down on s–t.”
Blanco also credited his mother for giving him early lessons in relationships, especially before things became serious with Gomez.
“My mom always took the time to explain how a female mind works because she was going through so many dating traumas when I was growing up,” he said.
Despite some personal struggles, Blanco considers himself an optimistic person: “I’ve had some tough times, but I’ve always been like a very happy person. I just wake up stoked every day.”
While he didn’t have male role models teaching him about emotions, Blanco said he’s learned a lot from observing the relationships of those around him.
“Some things [I] learn from friends of mine. I see them do something stupid, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’ll never do that in a relationship,’” he noted. “Then sometimes you see your friend do something rad, and you’re like, ‘Ooh, I’m taking that little idea.’” He emphasized, “You stop learning when you stop listening.”
Although Blanco has openly expressed his eagerness to have children, Gomez has previously revealed that she cannot carry a child due to medical complications related to lupus.
In a Vanity Fair interview last year, the singer shared that she’s still hopeful about becoming a mother one day through surrogacy or adoption.
“It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” Gomez said. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different.”
