After eight years of an on-and-off romance, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly ended their relationship once more — and this time, it might truly be the end.
A news outlet revealed that the couple has broken up and called off their engagement, with an insider stating, “It feels final this time.”
The pair first got together in 2017 and were rumored to be engaged in 2020, though it wasn’t officially confirmed until the following year.
They made their relationship public in 2018, but breakup rumors surfaced just a year later. However, the two managed to reconcile after a few months apart.
By late 2020, the Fifty Shades of Grey actress, now 35, was seen wearing a diamond ring, fueling engagement speculation.
In August of last year, rumors of a split resurfaced, but Johnson’s representative denied the claims, saying the couple was “happily together.”
At the time, a source pointed out that they experienced “their ups and downs, like any couple,” largely due to spending significant time apart because of work.
In addition to the challenges of maintaining a long-distance relationship, the insider noted, “Sometimes, Chris can be a little too switched-off for Dakota’s liking.”
While the couple kept their relationship mostly private, Johnson expressed her admiration for the Coldplay frontman, 48, in a 2024 interview.
“I love watching him. I could watch him every day,” she said. “I don’t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don’t know … I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.”
She added, “I love me a musician,” explaining her attraction by saying, “I think it’s talent. I think it’s the way that they see the world. But I think it really depends on the musician. I’ve known some s—– ones.”
