Erika Kirk Faces Husband Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Killer Tyler Robinson in Court for the First Time/ What was her reaction?
Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, attended a court hearing for Tyler Robinson on Monday, July 6, facing her husband’s alleged killer for the first time since the right-wing activist was fatally shot nearly 10 months ago.
Erika, 37, was joined by Charlie’s parents for the beginning of a week-long preliminary hearing in Utah that will preview much of the prosecution’s evidence against Robinson, the 23-year-old suspect in Charlie’s Sept. 10 assisination at Utah Valley University.
Donald Trump Jr. also showed up, according to The Associated Press and Robinson’s parents were seated a few rows behind the Kirks.
At the start of the hearing, the judge acknowledged that the subject matter would be emotional for some in the room, but urged attendees to maintain decorum and refrain from creating distractions or expressing support or opposition toward either side.
Prior to the hearing, the Kirk family shared a joint statement from Erika, Charlie’s parents, and his sister, writing in part, “Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children. We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives.”
The preliminary hearing will resemble a miniature trial and determine whether prosecutors have a strong enough case against Robinson to try him for aggravated murder.
During Charlie’s memorial service at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., Erika said on stage that she forgives her husband’s alleged killer.
“My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” she tearfully said at the Sept. 21 service. “Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.’ That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it’s what Charlie would do.”
Charlie co-founded Turning Point USA as an 18-year-old to advocate for conservative politics on high school and college campuses and remained the CEO of the organization until his death at 31.
A week later, the TPUSA board unanimously voted to install Erika as their new chief executive, putting her at the forefront of his advocacy efforts.
