Justin Baldoni’s Lawyer Breaks Down Blake Lively Settlement: “Time for Everyone to Move On”
After a grueling two-year legal battle that gripped Hollywood, Justin Baldoni’s legal team is hoping the chapter is officially closed on his high-profile feud with Blake Lively.
Appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, opened up about the recent out-of-court settlement. Freedman explained that his decision to make the full agreement public was a deliberate move to ensure total finality and prevent the case from being resurrected down the line.
“The parties wanted a definitive resolution,” Freedman shared. “The agreement leaves no room for anyone to bring back previous claims, whether that’s damages, penalties, or other financial compensation.”
The confidential resolution was reached last month, just two weeks before the case was scheduled to head to a federal trial.
The Last Remaining Loose End: Legal Fees
While the core conflict is settled, one final financial detail is still being ironed out. Last week, Judge Lewis J. Liman ruled that Blake Lively is entitled to have her legal defense fees reimbursed, stemming from a defamation claim involved in the dispute.
The judge’s ruling relies on a 2023 California statute known as the *Protecting Survivors From Weaponized Defamation Lawsuits Act* (Section 47.1).
The law is specifically designed to protect individuals from retaliatory defamation lawsuits after they speak out about harassment, abuse, or discrimination.
Despite the pending fee calculations, Freedman emphasized that it is time for both A-listers to look forward.
“I think it’s finally over,” Freedman stated. “I hope Blake can move on with her life, just as Justin and everyone else involved can. There are still some minor issues to iron out, but the heart of the conflict is resolved. I hope everyone wishes each other the best and gets to a point where they say: enough is enough, we might not agree, but we have to move forward.”
